Following a major renovation of the building and grounds The Lion Inn at Winchcombe has been given a new lease of life transforming it into a place that we would like to visit – friendly; pampering; great local food; wine; ales; child and dog friendly; comfortable beds and attractive, relaxing rooms.
The Lion is a place you can walk into on your own or come with friends and family for coffee and cake, bar snacks, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, stay the night or the week and know that you will receive a warm welcome and be well looked after.
Our constantly changing menu can also be enjoyed al-fresco in our large, sunny well-stocked garden. Please note prices below may vary slightly depending on the season.
Christmas & New Year Celebrations
Join us at The Lion this December, for a festive lunch with friends, a celebration with colleagues or take the plunge and spend the whole Christmas period with us and truly escape. Relax, unwind and enjoy the cosy atmosphere, log fires and board games, with the odd hearty walk to burn off any indulgent excesses.
The Christmas Day Menu is £80 per person (including a glass of champagne on arrival).
Wine matching is also available at; £20 per person.
Children are welcomed for lunch at the full price of £75 (food only).

We can now host Christmas parties in our Clubroom for up to 24 guests. We have prepared a seasonal menu for all Christmas lunch and dinner bookings of more than 8 people.

For those smaller groups of up to 8 wanting a festive lunch, we will also be offering a seasonal menu, highlighting some of the best local produce in the area.
Join us on Christmas Eve enjoying ample time to relax, unwind with friends and family. From the moment you arrive we will do our upmost to help you do as much, or as little as you wish whilst ensuring your Christmas with us is truly magical. Settle into your room, then join us for tea and home made festive treats in the snug, if you have had a long journey and would rather just relax we will organise some treats to be sent up to your room.In the evening let us spoil you with a festive cocktail before indulging in a delicious three-course dinner in our restaurant.For guests who wish to attend Midnight Mass at one of the local churches, many of which are just a short stroll away, homemade hot chocolate and mince pies will be awaiting your return.
Start the day with a hearty breakfast, then why not get some fresh air and take a walk to before enjoying a glass of Champagne and canapés followed by a six-course lunch at 12pm or dinner at 4pm.During the evening, relax in your room or in our snug, enjoy an after dinner tipple, roast your own popcorn on the fire or play one of our board games. Why not try your hand at making your own Christmas cocktail? Panic not our experienced bar team will be here to help you. If you feel a little peckish later in the evening why not raid our kitchens in your pyjamas for the last of the turkey and anything else you can find.
After brunch the day is yours – we are on hand with plenty of ideas to keep you occupied! There is plenty to do in the Cotswolds, whether it be a day at the sales, borrowing one of our maps to explore the Cotswold Way or even a visit to see the hounds in Broadway. If you would rather have a day in the hotel, please be our guest. We will be serving a festive afternoon tea with traditional Christmas cake in the snug from 3pm. Cocktails will then be served followed by dinner in the Restaurant.

We are opting for relaxed New Year celebrations this year. Welcome in 2015 surrounded by a small group of friends new and old with a glass of Champagne.This year we will be offering a 2 night package, upon arrival on the 31st December relax by the fire or opt for something more strenuous and stretch your legs on the Cotswold Way before indulging in a 7 course dinner preceded of course by celebratory cocktails and canapés. Enjoy a leisurely lie in on New Year’s Day, before joining us for brunch in the restaurant, the day is yours to do with as you wish, maybe a spot of horse racing with the New Year’s Day meet at Cheltenham Racecourse before dinner is served in the evening.
Following a hearty breakfast on the 2nd January we will bid you farewell and wish you all the very best for 2015.
We of course have only 7 rooms so invite non-residents to join us too, for cocktails and canapés dinner and a midnight toast the cost per person is £75

Christmas Hotel Package Bookings
We will require a 50% deposit at time of booking. If you need to cancel within 4 weeks of arrival we will refund this pre-payment if we manage to re-sell the rooms booked. This deposit is non refundable with less than 4 weeks notice.
Full payment will be then due on departure.

The Christmas Shop, Broadway
This shop is unbelievably open all year round and is stacked full of everything Christmas, well worth a visit any day of the week but why not coincide with the 5th December, the date for Broadways festive late night shopping evening.
Cotswold Wildlife Park
Santa has kindly loaned two of his very own Reindeer, Donner and Blitzen, to the Wildlife Park during December and January. You might be lucky enough to see them taking a walk around the Park, getting fit for the big day! After Christmas you can see them relaxing after all their hard work in the Children’s Farmyard.
Lapstone, Chipping Campden
If you are looking for gift inspiration, something special or something unique this is the place to visit, situated just outside of Chipping Campden this barn conversion is stocked of the most sumptuous treats.
The Cotswold Way offers just over 100 miles of magical walking, with long distance views from the Cotswold escarpment, and journeys through picturesque villages and past famous ancient sites. Please just ask a member of the team of you would like suggestions and maps of good local walks, we can also recommend the best places to stop for that half way tipple!
Tewkesbury Abbey & Gloucester Cathedral
Visit either of these stunning building and join the choir in singing some of your favourite Christmas Carols. This will truly get you into the Christmas spirit and embrace the true meaning of Christmas.
Gloucestershire Warwickshire Railway
Departing from Cheltenham Racecourse or Toddington station, Santa and his team of elves join the train to Winchcombe. Mince pies, hot drinks and gifts for the children are all included in the cost of £15. The steam train runs the specific dates: 29th & 30th November, 6th, 7th, 13th, 14th, 20th, 21st, 22nd, 23rd & 24th December, the diesel train runs the week before Christmas only.
Cheltenham & Winchcombe Christmas Markets
Cheltenham’s Christmas market runs from the 5th to the 21st December, Winchcombe’s market is for one night only on the 2nd December. Both markets have some fantastic and unique gifts on offer along with warming mulled wines and festive treats they really are worth a visit.
Both the everyman in Cheltenham and The Roses in Tewkesbury will be showing pantomimes this year, with Sleeping Beauty and Beauty and the Beast to choose from, suitable for all ages, great fun for all the family.
New Year’s Day Meet At Cheltenham Race Course
Banish the sore heads from the previous night’s celebrations and watch seven compelling contests on the track. Enjoy the thunder of the hooves, as the horses duel for the honours in the hope to being in the number one position in the famous Cheltenham Winner’s Enclosure. Gates open at 10.30am with the first race at 12.10pm. The last race is at 3.40pm
