Welcome To The Lion Inn
Enjoy delicious home-cooked, locally-sourced food and a great selection of beer, wine and spirits in a beautiful, relaxing environment that dates back to the 15th Century.
Following a major renovation of the building and grounds The Lion Inn at Winchcombe has been given a new lease of life transforming it into a place that we would like to visit – friendly; pampering; great local food; wine; ales; child and dog friendly; comfortable beds and attractive, relaxing rooms.
The Lion is a place you can walk into on your own or come with friends and family for coffee and cake, bar snacks, lunch, afternoon tea or dinner, stay the night or the week and know that you will receive a warm welcome and be well looked after.
Our constantly changing menu can also be enjoyed al-fresco in our large, sunny well-stocked garden. Please note prices below may vary slightly depending on the season.
The Lion Inn started life as a coaching inn in the 15th Century. Over the years it has gone through many changes and played an important role in the village and surrounding areas; providing food, drink and accommodation for both people and horses, in a variety of guises.
Having fallen in love with the building, Annie Fox-Hamilton took over ownership of the Lion in October 2011 and spent six months on a major renovation of the building and grounds. We were determined not to lose any of the inn’s original quirky charm; we unearthed quite a lot more than we had anticipated such as Mickey Mouse – the vintage wall painting in Room 1 we couldn’t bear to lose.
The Lion has a bar, snug, restaurant, garden (ideal for alfresco dining), 7 double bedrooms with en-suite bathrooms including a suite with its own entrance. All have extremely comfortable beds, their own individual character and ambiance.
Our regularly changing menu features both popular and seasonal dishes that cater for a wide variety of tastes, preferences and dietary requirements.
The Lion Inn is situated in the heart of historic Winchcombe which has an abundance of beautiful Cotswold buildings, individual shops, popular restaurants and cafes and a choice of lively pubs. The romantic Sudeley Castle, resting place of Queen Katherine Parr, is within walking distance and the world famous Cheltenham Racecourse is a few miles away.
Visiting the Cotswolds
The Lion Inn is an ideal base from which to explore some of the most beautiful locations in the Cotswolds. We have stunning countryside, beautiful walks and cycle routes, open gardens, festivals, country fetes, races, vintage car hill climbs, local cider, perry and beers, pick your own fruit, and fields of Cotswold lavender.
The towns of Chipping Campden, Broadway, Moreton-in-the-Marsh, Stow-on-the-Wold, Bourton-on-the-Water, Burford, Northleach, The Guitings, The Slaughters, Cirencester and many other smaller beautiful villages and hamlet are all within 30 – 40 minutes by car.
A Big Thank You
